Many of the low level techs in my area can barely afford rent, or can't even afford food. It is like pulling teeth trying to get a raise. If you have any sort of familiarity with AV tech, look elsewhere. They pay well below the market rate for AV techs. Even then, the promotion probably won't happen. They will force you to take mind-numbing training in order to get a promotion. I applied for a higher position, but they placed me at the lowest level of tech. I got placed in an entry level position, despite being overqualified for that position. There is a large amount of corporate politics involved in working at Encore. Some Techs I've worked with have had turnarounds of less than 8 hours between shifts after working a 12+ hour day. The time given between shifts can be really rough sometimes. Often times, you will find yourself working 12 hours or more on these days, getting out late, and coming in very early the next morning. Setting up a large room for a set, multiple speakers, microphones, screens, digital consoles, projection equipment, and more. On those days, the most you would do is troubleshoot some AV tech, run some cable, or maybe give someone a power strip. Some days can be boring, as you are just making sure clients in meeting rooms are satisfied. And you get a lot of experience working with different people to make events happen. They provide a good amount of training (although often the training is very excessive). You will have to be prepared to multi-op.Įncore global is a good stepping stone for someone just starting in AV.
